Designed as an outdoor classroom, the pavilion hosted twenty-two workshops for local young people aged 11 to 19 years old as an extension of the London School of Architecture’s (LSA) Part 0 programme and coinciding with the School’s ten year anniversary.

The pavilion was in place throughout June 2024 as part of the London Festival of Architecture and welcomed over 450 young people. The pavilion responded to the Festival’s theme of Reimagine, turning a car park in Dalston into a public square throughout June.

Whilst on-site the pavilion became a one-stop-shop for young people interested in exploring a career in the built environment sector, hosting leading organisations such as: the Royal Institute of British Architects; Homegrown Plus; Open City; Drawing Matter; the Architecture Foundation Young Trustees; as well as nearby partners: Forest Road Youth Hub; Holy Trinity Primary School; East; and Rio Cinema.

Working closely with the New School of Furniture Making, Daniele Barco Works and Or This, RC/YYC designed and constructed the pavilion of softwood cassettes with spruce plywood sheets. The cassettes were assembled off-site and fixed to the A-frame on-site. This strategy enabled quick on-site assembly and disassembly. The pavilion material has since been re-used for other LSA and Part 0 projects, including the School’s 2026 summer show and LFA live-build in collaboration with the nearby Dalston Gardens Estate residents.

The pavilion was possible thanks to the generous donations from the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, the London Borough of Hackney, James Latham, E Roberts Timber and the Marchus Trust.
